We will Support Nigerian Power Sector – Senate

All hope is not lost for the Power Sector as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatisation, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, mentioned in Kaduna on Monday that the upper chamber of the National Assembly was committed to resolving all crises that has continually been disturbing the nation’s power sector and restoring investors’ confidence in the sector.

Murray-Bruce stated this when he led members of the committee on an oversight visit to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, (KEDC).

He said the Senate was aware and concerned about the situation in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, especially the widespread believe that the power sector privatization has failed and expressed the determination of the Senate to work hard to restore sanity to the sector as well as restore the confidence of all stakeholders in the market.

He also assured the private investors that his committee is not out to muscle them out business.

He said “Contrary to that, we shall work with the private sector to revamp the sector in particular and the economy in general and create job opportunities to our teeming youth”

The managing Director/Chief executive officer at Kaduna Electric Distribution Company, (KEDC),  Engr, Garba Haruna who was represented by the Chief Operating officer of the company, Mr. Major Bashkar appealed to the legislators to help out in changing the the way  Electricity consumers think on the operations and expectations of the private driven Power sector.

Meanwhile, the Senate committee on Privatization has already scheduled a full fledged public hearing where all stakeholders in the power sector would be invited to discuss and resolve issues in the Power sector for January, 2018.
